This course has been designed especially for people who may not be able to attend our face-to-face training courses. It runs over 3 months and includes 4 modules, the first 3 of which are designed in three sections. Each section aims to be about an hour long and will have:
- An Introduction with some background
- A variety of teaching materials for example reading, watching video material
- An activity which may be a quiz or an open forum where we ask you to ‘post ideas’. This means you contribute to a discussion and other group members can see it
- A short assignment – this is usually a reflective practice task
The 4th module is an overall evaluation of your ability to use the Talking Mats framework with a specific set of symbols. Weekly support will be provided by the Talking Mats Centre and by the end of the course you will:
- have increased understanding of communication and communication difficulties
- know how to ensure that people with communication difficulties are included in health interactions
- understand the Talking Mats communication framework
- be able to use the Talking Mats framework using a set of symbols developed from the World Health Organisation ICF within your work setting
