ISAAC Pittsburgh

I am stuck overnight at Pittsburgh airport on my way home after a week at the ISAAC (International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication) Biennial Conference. Feel a bit like Tom Hanks in the ‘Terminal’ as the same happened on the way out at Newark Airport!

Anyway, it was a great conference – lots of stimulating presentations and conversations. It was lovely to meet up with old friends and to make new ones – the world of AAC is a very special community.

The most significant themes I’m bringing back for Talking Mats are:

  • The explosion of App developments and how we can move forward with developing a Talking Mats App
  • Different styles and purposes of symbols
  • The use of WHO – ICF Core sets
  • Working with people at risk
  • Extending the use of our on-line training
  • Learning about Twitter and how we should use it for our business

I presented 2 papers which can be downloaded here:

  1. Using the WHO-ICF with Talking Mats® as a goal setting tool
  2. Communication difficulties and Talking Mats: the advantages and disadvantages of an on-line training course
