Looking for Non-Executive Directors
Our Vision: To support people with communication difficulties to think about things that matter to them, and to communicate their views effectively.
Our Mission: to provide a structured, visual tool to support thinking and conversation through training and consultancy.

Introduction from the Managing Director

Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Talking Mats Limited. We are an award-winning Social Enterprise dedicated to supporting communication.
The Talking Mats visual framework was developed by Dr Joan Murphy, Speech and Language Therapist, from research conducted at the University of Stirling in 1998. In 2011, motivated and inspired to put research into practice she was joined by another Speech and Language Therapist Lois Cameron, to develop a business opportunity.
As we approach our 15th year as a Social Enterprise, we are excited to embark on a new chapter of growth and development.
Today, the Talking Mats community is thriving. It is used in 40 countries and is translated into 5 languages. Our Licenced Training programme has 250 active trainers. The research network has produced over 130 published papers and continues to inform and inspire practice. The Talking Mats tool is both a low tech and high-tech digital tool. In 2022 we received a SMART Award from the Scottish Government to design a prototype for our Digital Talking Mat which combined our knowledge of conversational analysis with AI to develop a new data platform. For the next step of our business, we want to capitalise on using that tool to develop practical applications in Health, Education and Social Care.
Now, we are seeking Non-Executive Directors to help shape the future of our social enterprise as we plan for the next decade. We are looking for dedicated people who understand the importance of supporting people to communicate. We are at the cutting edge of using technological solutions to unlock communication potential. We need dedicated board members with experience in digital health and business development, to join us on our mission.
We are seeking applications by 24th October with a view to the successful candidates taking up the roles from December 2025. Please note that these are non-remunerated roles.
If our work inspires you and you want to contribute to the growth of a dynamic and impactful organisation, we would love to hear from you.
Warm regards,
Margo Mackay
